The L297 Stepper Motor Controller IC is a dedicated control interface designed to simplify stepper motor operation by generating all required drive signals. Often paired with power driver ICs such as the L298N or L293E, the L297 offloads complex timing and waveform generation from the microcontroller, enabling precise and efficient motor control.
Operating from a 4.75V to 7V supply, the L297 supports Wave Drive, Full-Step, and Half-Step modes, making it suitable for a variety of stepper motor configurations including bipolar and unipolar types. Its built-in PWM chopper current control ensures stable and accurate motor current regulation.
The IC includes inputs for clock, direction, enable, and reset, allowing simplified MCU interfacing. The DIP-20 through-hole package ensures easy prototyping and integration into motor control systems.
