The DS1307 is a widely used Serial Real-Time Clock (RTC) IC that keeps accurate time and date information in a compact SOIC-8 package. Operating via a simple I²C (two-wire) interface, it provides full calendar and clock functions, storing seconds, minutes, hours, day, date, month, and year data in binary-coded decimal (BCD) format.
The DS1307 includes 56 bytes of battery-backed NV SRAM, allowing small data storage even during power loss. With its automatic power-fail detection circuit, the RTC seamlessly switches to the backup battery (VBAT) to maintain timekeeping when the main supply fails.
Capable of running in 12-hour (AM/PM) or 24-hour format, it features a programmable square-wave output, leap-year correction through 2100, and ultra-low power consumption (<500 nA in backup mode). This makes the DS1307 ideal for microcontroller projects, data loggers, embedded systems, clocks, and real-time scheduling applications.
