The Holtek HT9200A is a Dual-Tone Multi-Frequency (DTMF) tone generator IC designed for applications requiring reliable tone-based communication, such as telephone dialing, remote control systems, and tone-based signaling. This compact device interfaces easily with microcontrollers using a serial control mode, enabling the generation of 16 dual tones and 8 single tones commonly used in telecommunications.
Operating over a voltage range of 2.0V to 5.5V, the HT9200A provides flexibility for both low-power and standard logic circuits. The IC requires an external 3.58 MHz crystal or ceramic resonator for accurate frequency generation, ensuring stable tone output with low harmonic distortion. Its very low standby current makes it suitable for power-efficient designs.
Packaged in an 8-pin DIP through-hole format, the HT9200A is easy to integrate into breadboards, prototyping boards, and production PCBs for telecom or signaling applications.
