The VIPer22A is a high-performance off-line SMPS primary switcher IC from STMicroelectronics, integrating a PWM controller and a high-voltage power MOSFET in a compact DIP-8 package. It is designed for efficient and reliable power conversion in low- to medium-power AC-DC applications up to 20W.

This IC operates at a fixed 60 kHz switching frequency and supports a wide VDD operating range from 9V to 38V, enabling flexible power supply designs. Using current-mode PWM control, the VIPer22A delivers stable output regulation, fast transient response, and improved efficiency. An automatic burst mode enhances efficiency under light-load and standby conditions.

The device includes multiple built-in protection features such as overtemperature shutdown, overcurrent and overvoltage protection with automatic restart in hiccup mode, and undervoltage lockout with hysteresis. An integrated high-voltage startup current source simplifies the external circuitry and reduces component count.

The VIPer22A is widely used in battery chargers, standby power supplies for TVs and monitors, auxiliary power supplies in motor control systems, and compact off-line power conversion designs where safety, efficiency, and reliability are essential.
